A MAC code (migration authority code) is a unique code / number which your new broadband service provider will need to identify your broadband line at the exchange, and transfer your service across to them without you losing your existing connection.
A MAC code consists of four letters beginning with L followed by between seven and nine numbers, a slash, and five alphanumeric characters (e.g. LAEM7654321/1F4HT)

Don't yet know which Broadband provider to switch too?
If you've not yet decided what broadband package is right for you, use our simple compare table to get the best and
latest deals.
Compare broadband
We've compared all of the broadband packages currently on the market and you can compare each of the packages by total annual cost (to avoid sneaky hidden extra charges, or those classic 3 months introductory offers, only to double the line rental price by month 4!), speed, usage, service etc..
Having difficulty obtaining your broadband MAC code?
Your current broadband required is obligated to provide you with a MAC code within 5 working days of receiving this request. Most service providers choose to only provide you with your MAC code if you call them personally, this way they have a chance to save you and persuade you about not going to a competitor. If you have not received your MAC code within this time period or your service provider is being particularly difficult, then you may wish to look at registering a formal complaint through Ofcom. For more details on how to do this, please visit the Ofcom website.
